HOW TO PRAY IN CRISIS:

Acts 4:24 “And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, Lord, thou art God, which hast made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is….”
What distinguishes a mature believer from a babe in Christ is what each does at a time of crisis.
Learning how to pray in a CRISIS situation is very fundamental in discipleship, because such a situation shall continually confront any believer who is obeying the Great Commission.(Mark 16:15).
The above text is taken from Acts 4. A chapter that records the very first persecution the early church faced. Peter had done a notable miracle on an impotent fellow as the most notable of places, the “entrance of the Temple”. This directly affronted the religious leadership of his day. And by extension stirred up a wave of crisis of persecution to the young and tender church at Jerusalem.
And the Church prayed. Prayer is our only answer to the world, as we rest not upon our own power, but that of our Lord who is omnipotent. However, how we pray, the words we pray, which in turn reflects our mindset in crisis is important.
Let’s do an exegesis of the prayer response of the church in this particular situation, so that we might draw a few lessons.
Vs 24- “Thou art God…..”
Giving sovereignty to God in every situation is paramount, especially in a crisis. Recognize who God is. An accurate view of God is Christ.
Hebrews 1:3 states that Christ uphold all things by his power.
Col 2:9 states that in Christ dwells the fullness of the Godhead.
This is the platform upon which you confront any and every crisis in the faith.”For he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.( Heb 11:6).
The beginning of this diligence is in your estimation of Christ.
We have established that the foremost thing to do when facing a crisis is to hold our head and spirit high. And we achieve this by esteeming our Lord and Saviour high above the present circumstances, whatever they be.
In vs 25 it shows us to recognise what God said in his word. Speak the word as it applies to the situation in question.
In vs 26-27, it shows you to see yourself inside Christ. That means that this problem is confronting Christ himself, not just you. And ofcourse, you are to esteem Christ enough to meet the need.
Next is in vs 28 – It shows us to recognise that nothing surprises God. He knows the end from the beginning.Rom 4:17, John 6:6.
Take note that NO MENTION was made of the Devil in all their prayer. Although, they knew who was behind the attacks, they never gave the Enemy any prominence, not even the relevance of one mention.
Finally, in vs 29, they asked for boldness to engage squarely with the situation. Boldness in declaring God’s viewpoint on any matter is the chief characteristic of a true believer. See Acts 4:13.
They believed and expected God’s intervention. And they recorded answered prayers.
CONCLUSION : Prayer must be a knowledgeable and strategic partnership with the HolySpirit to produce result.
